Listening Art

After receiving a 10k innovation grant from Creative Fuse NE, I developed a sound interactive photo software. I adapted the app for the Health Care sector. Primarily it was for Alzheimer Patients which they could use with old photographs by interacting with voice recog. I found I didn’t suit all patients as Alzheimars is complicated mental disease. Some patients would find the flux of images too much while others would found it to be enjoyable as they sang into the app.

I then turned my attention to paediatrics especially Autism.
Along with Artist Karen Underhill, we set up 1:1 workshops with children at the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle.
We discovered they liked the sound interactive image mash-up as a creative distraction. Setting up ‘doodle stations’ we gathered together image content and imported them into the app and exhibited this at their bespoke MediCinema.

The video displays the sound interactivity by just tapping on the laptop near the mic the images are recalled to screen randomly. I showed this at my showcase exhibition at Sunderland Software Centre, plugging in the laptop to the screen.
